2005-2007 Super Duty: coils and radius arms

For 2005, Ford changed the 4x4 front end from leaf springs to coil springs with radius arms.

What changed

MotorWeek's 2005 road test and SuperMotors both report the 4x4 front leaf springs gave way to a coil-spring design, with a new frame with boxed front sections (MotorWeek). Diesel World credits the change with better ride and a tighter turning radius. The front axle is located by radius arms and a track bar.

Lift approaches

Coil trucks can be leveled with spacers or lifted with taller coils. Taller lifts often add radius arm drop brackets or different arms to restore caster (see lifts). This generation starts the 2005-2016 range where an aftermarket bulletin filed with NHTSA discusses steering oscillation on lifted trucks (see death wobble).

Engine

The 6.0L Power Stroke powered these years (Wikipedia, Diesel Hub).
